Main Bearing Shells A23.01-98-60sb are designed for SMD-60 / SMD-72 engines and are installed in the crankshaft assembly. The bearing shell part numbers are A23.01-98-60SB, A23.01-98-72SB, A23.01-9807 and A23.01-9808. The set consists of 6 upper and 6 lower bearing shells, 12 half-shells in total per engine. They are used on HTZ tractors and other machinery equipped with SMD family engines.

The bearing shells are installed in the main bearing supports of the cylinder block and work together with the crankshaft journals, providing the required clearance between the mating surfaces. Depending on the repair size, the bearing shells are available for different crankshaft main journal diameters.

The size range includes the following repair versions: N1 — 92.25 mm (+0.25 mm), N2 — 92.00 mm (nominal), R1 — 91.50 mm (−0.50 mm), R2 — 91.00 mm (−1.00 mm), R3 — 90.50 mm (−1.50 mm), R4 — 90.00 mm (−2.00 mm). The required size should be selected according to the actual crankshaft main journal diameter after inspection and, if necessary, machining.

Depending on the configuration and manufacturer, the set may additionally include crankshaft thrust half-rings. They were especially often included in original Soviet-made factory sets, including those manufactured in Tambov. If thrust half-rings are not included in the set, they can be purchased separately according to the specific engine configuration.

When replacing the main bearing shells, it is important to consider the condition of the crankshaft journals, the dimensions of the cylinder block bearing seats and the required repair size. Incorrectly selected bearing shells can result in improper oil clearance and reduced engine reliability.
